A century of bowls

The club was formed in 1922, so we celebrated our centenary in 2022. We are located in the south of Cambridgeshire, about 10 miles from Cambridge.

There is an active membership of over 50 members, as well as a number of social members. We have two teams playing in the Cambridge and District League (currently Division 2 and Division 4), as well as teams in the Meldreth & District League and Foxton Midweek League and 2 teams in the Cambridge Business House Mixed League.

We also play a few Friendly matches and run a series of Club Days during the season, which runs from late April to early September. The club also participates in a number of inter-club knock-out competitions and has a range of in-house competitions.

Welcoming new members

We like to think that we are a very friendly and active club, welcoming new members of any age. The Club has an Open Day on the Sunday of May Day holiday weekend every year, where potential new members are invited to come along and have a go.

As well as the various leagues, there are roll-up sessions every Monday afternoon throughout the season where members can play. On the social side, there are open coffee mornings every Thursday during the season and a friendly whist drive is held on alternate Fridays during the winter.

About job rotas

The Club is a self-financing organisation. All non-greenkeeping jobs are performed by members — including weekly maintenance of the surrounds, preparation of teas for matches, and manning the club bar. With the exception of First Year members, all members are expected to participate. Typically this would only be 4 or 5 times during the season — it's not as daunting as it sounds!

A memorable day

As part of our Centenary Celebrations, the club played a Friendly Match against a team from the Chelsea Pensioners on Wednesday 17th August 2022. The day was an unqualified success and enjoyed by all who participated. One of the highlights was a fly-by by the WW2 Catalina flying boat based at IWM Duxford — thanks to Richard Symonds for arranging that special treat.
